Dúchas

Did you know why the name of our school is St. Leonard's? The answer to this question and many more can be found in the Schools Collection on the Dúchas website. During the years 1938 and 1939 a project was set up to encourage school children to collect stories, rhymes, songs and legends from their parents and grandparents. These were all written out and sent to the Folklore Commission. They have been digitised and are now readily available online at duchas.ie. Below we have a snapshot of some of the entries compiled by Pól MacLochlainn for St. Leonard's submission. There is much to be learnt by browsing through the 32 entries in this section.

Clicking on any image will bring you directly to that page on the website and the list of topics can be viewed on th left panel, with the transcribed text on the top right.
