National Spring Clean
Well done to the Green-Schools Committee who gave a Spring Clean to the village and partook in the National Spring Clean initiative. They cleaned the village, GAA grounds and the Graveyard. The County Council will collect all the bags collected.

Easter History Walk and Projects
Local historian and poet; Claire O'Neill gave a local history talk to students on Monday, reminiscing on life in Dunnamaggin, the shops, the lifestyle of people, Captain Pat Walsh and brave Nellie Peters. Flowers were laid on Pat Walsh's grave as we honour him at Easter. 3rd Class did projects on the history of landmarks in our area; The High Cross, the Three Churches, Captain Pat Walsh, Dunnamaggin GAA and LGFA & Camogie clubs and the Schools in Dunnamaggin. Tree Week 2026
Tree Week was celebrated in St Leonard's with lots of activities. Class took part in an excellent Tree Week Quiz. 3rd class went on a Tree Spotting walk and Pascal planted some new saplings in the school garden. A Tree-iffuc Week!

Engineers Week
4th and 5th class worked as civil engineers this week. They learned about different types of bridges and the support structures involved. They worked in groups to construct their own bridge and then tested its weight bearing capability.

Dunna Dash 2026
What a fantastic day we had yesterday at the Dunna Dash! The weather was fabulous – if not a little on the warm side – and it made for a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. The crowds were superb, the route was simply idyllic, and the refreshments afterwards were absolutely top notch. A huge word of thanks must go to our incredible Parents Association. The work that went into the sponsorship, organisation, and running of the annual 5km Dunna Dash was tremendous. Events

National Hurling League
Well done to the boys who represented St. Leonard's N.S. last Sunday in Nowlan Park. They played a challenge match against St. Declan's of Waterford during half time in the National Hurling league game between Kilkenny and Waterford. A fantastic experience for the boys. Maith sibh!

3rd class are learning about the Vikings in history. They did projects; which included PowerPoint presentations, photos, the Norse alphabet, Viking gods, made longhouse, made shields and weapons. The other classes came in to find out all about the Vikings from 3rd class.

Length in 3rd Class
3rd class have been working on length this week. They used wool to measure how tall they are. They made paper skeletons, measuring a member of their group and assembling the "life size" skeleton onto black paper. The did Target boards and also worked on Any Three Items. They measured how far they could run in 1 second and again in 2 seconds and also howfar they could jump. A "long" week!!

How Do Arctic Animals Bear The Cold?
We are reading about Tom Crean, Ice Man and learning about the Antarctica. We researched Arctic animals and how they are adapted to living in these extreme conditions. We investigated how blubber acts as an insulator. We set up an experiment "a blubber glove" that mimics the blubber that insulates some animals from ice cold water.
