St. Leonard's National School, Dunnamaggin

We are reading about Tom Crean, Ice Man and learning about the Antarctica. We researched Arctic animals and how they are adapted to living in these extreme conditions. We investigated how blubber acts as an insulator. We set up an experiment "a blubber glove" that mimics the blubber that insulates some animals from ice cold water.

The committee presented Litter to the Sea to classes to inform how litter can end up in the sea even from an inland county like Kilkenny. They showed the infants which bins to use to ensure we are recycling correctly. The Green Schools committee meet monthly in Mrs Langton's room.

The Green-Schools Committee met to finalise their environmental review. The researched marine animals and created a fact-file about their chosen animal. They then went to other classes to inform pupils about marine animals and the threats to their habitats and to their survival. The Green-Schools Committee will now identify goals and provide a structured timetable in their Action Plan.

The Greenschools Committee were pit in force as they took to the streets if Dunnamaggin, litter picking as part of their Day of Action.
