Over the past few months, 3rd class have been busy thinking, questioning, sketching and building as part of the STEPS Engineering Project. Five enthusiastic teams took on the challenge of designing something that could make life easier, safer, or more fun. Their ideas were wonderfully creative — from Pet Entertainers to keep animals active, a Bright Bin to help with tidy classrooms, a Toasty Blanket for cosy winter days, a Solar-Powered Car for a greener future, and a clever Glasses Strap to keep specs securely in place.
After lots of brainstorming and designing, each group moved on to the exciting part: building a prototype. Using a mix of everyday materials and huge imagination, the teams worked incredibly hard to bring their ideas to life. Our classroom became a hive of activity, full of testing, problem-solving and teamwork.
On Monday, we were thrilled to welcome Ben Whelan, an electrical engineer sent by STEPS Ireland, who visited our young engineers to hear all about their inventions. Ben offered advice, asked great questions and encouraged the pupils to keep thinking like real engineers. We were also delighted to meet Roseanne O’Leary from STEPS Ireland, who dropped in to see the fantastic work happening in 3rd class.
A huge thank you to both Ben and Roseanne for taking the time to support our pupils. And an even bigger well done to 3rd class, who presented their ideas confidently, represented their teams brilliantly, and showed just how bright the future of engineering can be!
