Science Week
Senior Infants and First class were exploring their sense of touch and compared how materials felt with a glove on and without. They concluded that certain materials were difficult to feel with the glove on.

Then we moved on to discuss the bones in our hands. We looked at some x-rays of hands and the ampunt of bones in both our fingers and our hands.
With a sharpie we tried to trace the lines/bones in our hands and fingers onto the glove to make our own x-rays.

STEPS 1 & 4. Living Things & Environmental Awareness and Care: Comparing and Contrasting Soil Samples.
5th and 6th class collected soil samples from their own gardens, school garden and teacher’s garden and used these samples to see which resulted in the most growth.
Results: Topsoil alone resulted in poor growth, the water took a long time to absorb in the soil.
Compost: good growth but not as much when compared with mix of topsoil and compost.
Topsoil & Compost: very successful growth.
They came to the conclusion that the stones present in the topsoil affected the growth of the parsley and the absorption of the water. The mixed sample worked best due to good quality soil.
